The Story of RIZADO
Hi! my name is Valeria and I am the founder of RIZADO. A question I get asked a lot is what made me want to start this company. Well, I'll tell you the story of how it all began…
When I was young, I used to have the most beautiful ringlets. I never really thought about my hair that deeply, but when I moved to Canada from Mexico, something came over me that made me believe my beautiful rizos were actually an untamed mane. This crazy thought was then "confirmed" throughout my entire life; in highschool when people would call my curls “bed head”; in university when I noticed the common theme of the “pretty girls” was having blonde straight hair; how in the workplace textured hair or protective hairstyles are considered unprofessional.

A little later in life, I decided to travel Latin America on exchange. Throughout this experience, I developed a desire to really embrace my Mexican roots. I met a friend that had beautiful curly hair. She would do everything she could to protect it. She made me realize that hair is an extension of me and I wanted to embrace my roots too. I would borrow some of her products in hopes this “wavy, curly and coilies” formula would bring my curls out. However, after trying so many products, I realized they all fail to recognize the different types of curly hair; what works for coily hair does not necessarily work for loose ringlets. On top of the products not producing the best results, the ingredients in those curly hair products were not very beneficial to anyone’s hair let alone address the unique differences of what is good for type 3 hair vs type 4 hair.

The combination of wanting to embrace my cultural self with the lack of haircare products to do so was what initiated the process of producing my own products. I knew I wasn’t the only one wanting to revive the curls but I wanted to make sure we were all on the same page of what we needed so, I conducted a “nationwide” survey asking you, individually, what you need and/or is missing from your current curly hair products. From researching scholarly articles written by naturopaths and scientists, to Tiktoks made by real people with real experiences, to hearing directly from you, I was able to create a variety of formulas that I believe pay homage to embracing your roots (literally and figuratively), with natural ingredients specially picked out for your specific curl pattern.
Hair is an extension of you and RIZADO was created to encourage you to embrace your roots. It goes beyond taking care of the literal roots on your head; each application of the natural product made for your unique hair type pays homage to ethnic identity.
Embrace Your Roots and let your hair tell the vibrant story of who you are and where you come from.
